Historical Site Visit

Welcome back to this weeks blog! For this weeks blog entry, we were told to visit a historical place of our choice. I chose the St. Augustine Lighthouse located in St. Augustine, Florida. Here to the right of the screen is a picture of the beautiful white and black striped lighthouse.  Today, September 20th, around 3:30pm my brother and I decided to take a deeper look into the history of the St. Augustine Lighthouse. What better way to do that than by going there, and that's exactly what we did! When we arrived, we went inside and bought out tickets to go make the 219 step climb to the top of the lighthouse. Once we bought our tickets, we walked down a small trail to get to the entrance of the lighthouse. The climb only took us about 10 minutes, when we go to the top of the lighthouse it was beautiful! Weather was nice, very windy and partly cloudy. We spent majority of our time at the top admiring the beach on one side and The City of St. Augustine on the other. The lightho...

"Blog entry of your choice"

Image
Hello! Welcome back to my blog, so glad you're here! ๐Ÿ˜Œ  For this week, I have decided to discuss Chapter 3 from the texted book "The History or Florida" . Chapter 3 is titled 'The Land They Found' by Paul E. Hoffman.  This chapter goes into detail about the land we discovered in the 20th century and the condition it was in. Hoffman goes in and describes the land as "the topography, soils, flora and fauna, and weather of the regions profoundly shaped the livelihoods and thus lives of the Native American, Europeans (History of Florida, Hoffman, p. 121)." Here, Hoffman is describing the land and home of the Europeans, that we know now. Later on in the chapter, Hoffman then goes into details of what is the first vast and ill-defined region in Southeastern North America... La Florida. He talks about the heat and the humidity and also the patterns and characteristics of soils that can be fixed properly due to the rainfall. Now, this does not shock me at all....

Here is my Chapter 2 Worksheet! (cited page numbers may be different than paper book, I have the ebook) ๐Ÿ˜

Introduction

Hello! ๐Ÿ˜ My name is Shealyn, but you can call me Shea. I am 20 years old, and a pisces ♓! Currently, I am in the Communications & Media program at FSCJ. Right now, I work at Planet Fitness ๐Ÿ‹ as an assistant manager, and I also love working out too (very FITing lol). In my free time, I enjoy traveling to visit my boyfriend who's in the navy๐Ÿš, reading๐Ÿ“š, sleeping๐Ÿ’ค, and going to the beach๐Ÿ–.  I decided to take this course (AMH2070) because I wanted to learn more about the history of Florida, the place I've lived my entire life! What I hope to get out of this class is more knowledge on my stopping grounds and all the history that happened here many years ago. I've lived here my whole life and feel like I only know a fraction of the history of the state. I can't wait to learn more as the semester goes on.
