Welcome to my last blog... 😢 First, I would like to say I hope you guys have enjoyed my blog entrees during this class, as for me it has been so much fun to do!      Over the span of the semester I have enjoyed diving deeper into the history of Florida. It has really opened my eyes to all of the amazing and historical things that have happened in the state I've lived in my entire life that I had no idea about until I took this class. I'm so thankful now that I am much more knowledgeable in my home state history. It was so interesting to learn about the history that happened so close to my home, in the St. Johns River with William Bartram; I find it so cool to learn about the history where you live. This is really opened my eyes to history in general and has made me want to learn more about the history around me.  This class has not only taught me about the amazing history of Florida but it has also promoted my critical thinking while reading/researching and co...

Historical Visit P2

Welcome back to my blog! It's been a little bit since I've been on here but I'm glad to be back! For this week blog, we got to visit another historical site, and I'm glad I went earlier during the week because right now the location I chose to go to is completely flooded by Hurricane Nicole :( I chose to go to the very well known, Castillo De San Marcos National Monument in St. Augustine. On November 3rd, my best friend, Grayson and her dog, Cooper and I went to adventure the Castillo De San Marco. The weather was absolutely beautiful, it was a little windy but very clear skies it was a beautiful day to explore some of Saint Augustine's oldest treasure. " The oldest masonry fort in the continental United States, the Castillo de San Marcos is a large Spanish stone fortress built to protect and defend Spain's claims in the New World. It's a National Monument and, at over 315 years old, it's the oldest structure in St. Augustine. It's also one of t...

"Blog entry of your choice"

Image
Hello all! Welcome back to my blog, so glad you're here! For this week our blog entry is based off my choice, YAY!  I am going to be talking about our novel that we are reading in class: A Land Remembered written by Patrick D. Smith. The book was set in 1858 in the wilderness of Florida.  Let's talk about some of the carefully thought out characters of the novel. First: We have the family man; Tobias . Tobias's immediate family consists of his wife, Emma and their son, Zech. Tobias is a very grounded man, and is portrayed as such in the novel. A kindhearted man, who treats everyone equally(since the very beginning of the novel). His family lives on a small farm in Florida, and he earns money for his family by selling cattle. * Second: We have Emma . The supporting wife of Tobias and mother to Zech. Emma cooks for all the men, and I mean ALL. She never complains, which is a great look into her genuine personality. She causes no problems, everyone loves her.  Third: ...

Historical Site Visit

Image
Welcome back to this weeks blog! For this weeks blog entry, we were told to visit a historical place of our choice. I chose the St. Augustine Lighthouse located in St. Augustine, Florida. Here to the right of the screen is a picture of the beautiful white and black striped lighthouse.  Today, September 20th, around 3:30pm my brother and I decided to take a deeper look into the history of the St. Augustine Lighthouse. What better way to do that than by going there, and that's exactly what we did! When we arrived, we went inside and bought out tickets to go make the 219 step climb to the top of the lighthouse. Once we bought our tickets, we walked down a small trail to get to the entrance of the lighthouse. The climb only took us about 10 minutes, when we go to the top of the lighthouse it was beautiful! Weather was nice, very windy and partly cloudy. We spent majority of our time at the top admiring the beach on one side and The City of St. Augustine on the other. The lightho...
